The 5th edition of the India International Deaf Film Festival (IIDFF) has honored Iranian titles.
The 7-minute ‘Melody’ by Fatimah Lotfi and Behrouz Qasemi, deaf Iranian couple, received statuette and plaque of honor at the deaf section of the Indian festival.
It tells the story of a young boy and a young girl that are in love. Both of them being deaf, some problems occur when they decide to get married.
Another Iranian film titled ‘Limit’ also received statuette and plaque of honor from the jury at the international hearing section of the event.
Directed and written by Javad Daraei, the 8-minute film chronicles the story of a man in a quiet neighborhood who asks the people around to help him when all of a sudden somebody goes into his home.
‘Limit’ has so far won several top prizes from international festivals, including six in the US and two in the UK.
It recently won four awards at the 50/fifty Reel Hallow's Eve Challenge, 2017, in the US.
‘Spoon’ was the other representative of Iran in the India Deaf festival. It is a 15-minute documentary.
Founded in 2011, IIDFF has designed the deaf film competitions for screening of film length from one to 30 minutes in India. It also encourages the hearing to participate in special category of competition on silent films with a deaf artist in the movie.
The jury constitutes film professionals who know sign language including deaf, hard for hearing and hearing.
The 5th edition of the IIDFF was held on December 11-12, 2017, at the Eastern Zonal Cultural Centre in Kolkata, West Bengal.

It is nice to see that the world is paying attention to the disabled in different ways such a holding such festivals. My sister is deaf and cannot watch films like us, but I bring her films with subtitles to help her watch movies with us.
